Bit of a captain obvious moment here... But soaking and then cooking your black beans is really easy and will save you big bucks if you've been buying them in a can. It takes some preparation, but its passive preparation at best.
One cup of dried black beans makes just under three cups of cooked black beans.
1 cup of dried Black Beans
Soak one cup of dried black beans in a bowl. Rinse out the water a couple of times till the water is clear.
When you're ready to cook simply boil a pot of water, drain your soaked beans and add to the boiling water. Allow to cook until they are just starting to break down. This normally takes 30-45 minutes depending on the freshness of the beans and your textural preference.
The cooked beans will store for a few days or can be used hot in your main dish.
